ACES Student-Parent Advisory Council

The ACES Student-Parent Advisory Council serves the three stakeholder institutions to represent the needs of the students, parents, and families in the ACES program and promote awareness within the community at –large. This may include any needed improvements in the ACES program as well as implications of growth and expansion and other significant issues that may arise.

What is the structure of the ACES Student-Parent Advisory Council?
The ACES Student and Parent Council is composed of students and parents from ACES Montgomery County Public Schools’ high schools, Montgomery College, and the Universities of Shady Grove campus.

How are members chosen to serve?
Interested individuals are required to complete an application by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2016. A selection committee will review each application based on specific criteria to ensure a broad representation of ACES students and parents participate on the advisory council. The selection criteria for participants are:

High School Senior Students

  • Minimum GPA of 2.5
  • On-time to graduate
  • A minimum of 70 Student Service Learning hours
  • Submission of a letter of recommendation and a resume

College Students

  • Preference for those in good academic standing
  • Submission of a letter of recommendation and a resume

Parents

  • Have at least one child enrolled in the ACES program that has active status and a minimum of 80% participation in the program

When will the ACES Student-Parent Advisory Council meetings be held?
The 2 hour meetings will be held four times a year on the Montgomery College, Rockville campus.  Interpretation will be provided upon request.

What is the role of ACES Student-Parent Advisory Council members?

  • To commit to a two year term for parents or a one year term for students
  • To serve as advocates for the students in the program
  • To serve as a medium by which parents and students can voice their opinions and feedback on the program and its direction
