The Employee & Labor Relations and Recruitment team is responsible for employee and labor relations at Montgomery College. On a daily basis, our office provides advice and support to supervisors regarding employee relations issues, including providing guidance and interpretation of the terms of the collective bargaining agreements and applicable policies and procedures. We also meet with employees and provide assistance in identifying options for resolving workplace disputes, both formally and informally.
In accordance with Montgomery College Policy 11003, Labor Relations, we endeavor to work collaboratively with the unions representing employees in three bargaining units (full-time faculty, part-time faculty, and staff) in order to resolve issues at the lowest possible levels. We participate and facilitate joint labor management committees, administer grievance procedures, and negotiate collective bargaining agreements on behalf of the President and Board of Trustees. We also work closely with employee services and other governance councils.
Engaged faculty, staff, and administrators are essential to achieving Montgomery College’s mission, “We empower our students to change their lives and we enrich the life of our community. We are accountable for our results.” The goal of the Employee & Labor Relations and Recruitment team is to promote our core values of excellence and integrity by helping to maximize the number of engaged employees at Montgomery College. At Montgomery College, engaged employees understand how the jobs they do contribute to achieving the mission of the college and that the college respects and appreciates their contributions. To this end, we facilitate the Employee Engagement Advisory Group (EEAG). The EEAG makes recommendations intended to remove impediments to engagement, and foster policies, behaviors, and philosophies, which contribute to increased engagement. The EEAG includes leaders from employee organizations, including Academic Assembly, the Montgomery College Chapter of the American Association of University Professors, Local 2380 of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, SEIU Local 500, and the staff, faculty, Administrators, and Employee Services Councils.
