Nonprofit Training Institute
The Nonprofit Training Institute offers a growing mix of courses designed to enhance the skills of experienced and new nonprofit professionals. The individual courses are tailored to a specific topic but open to all students from all levels of experience. The programs, like the Nonprofit Leadership Boot Camp, are designed with a specific audience in mind. The institute is expanding the variety of courses offered to the public with plans to offer new courses each fall.
NPT001 Nonprofit Leadership Boot Camp (56 hour course), Learn More / Apply
The Nonprofit Leadership Boot Camp was created to provide nonprofit professionals with opportunities to enhance and acquire new skills through a comprehensive cohort based learning model. The content for the boot camp is derived from meetings with nonprofit executive directors responding to the question “which skill gaps can be filled through training?” The boot camp attracts mid-level managers with 3 – 5 years’ experience in the nonprofit field.
The boot camp provides a great overview of nonprofit organizations from the inside out and discusses leadership in a manner where students feel empowered to lead from their position and identify strategies for organizational growth. The eight (8) sessions cover organization leadership, community benefit planning, sustainability, program development, operations, engagement, supervision, finance and communication. This highly interactive program promotes networking among the cohort in between sessions.
Admission to the boot camp is selective. Interested students are asked to submit the completed application by the deadline. Each application is screened by a committee to decide if the student is the right fit for the cohort. The screening committee works to achieve a great balance of representation among nonprofit organizations throughout the metropolitan area with mid-level experience. NPT002 Nonprofit Fundraising and Development (12 hour course)
Effective fundraising requires strategic planning and buy-in from staff and volunteers. This course will provide the basics of best practices in nonprofit fundraising and development, and will cover areas such as major donor development, solicitation techniques, donor database management, event planning, seeking corporate support and grants, and much more. This course is ideal for executive directors, fundraising staff, major gifts officers, and volunteers. Coming Fall 2015
NPT003 Nonprofit Marketing and Communications (12 hour course)
Raising the profile of your nonprofit organization and telling your story requires strategy and planning. This course will provide training using a wide variety of tools including social media, websites, newsletters and e-mail marketing, and media advisories. Emphasis will be on branding and messaging in support of your organization’s fundraising efforts and the latest trends. This course is ideal for executive directors, marketing and communications staff, and volunteers. Coming Fall 2015
Note: Nonprofit organizations conducting business in Maryland can send their employee(s), who reside in D.C. or Virginia to this program and pay In-State tuition. The organization must fill out a Business and Industry form for those out-of-state employees and return it with the application packet.
