Project Management Professional (PMP)® Certification Track Course Details

To obtain a PMP® Certification you must meet the requirements of the Project Management Institute (PMI), which includes a general educational requirement, Project Management education requirement and Project Management experience. Based on these three factors (a table is below), you can determine whether you can qualify for the PMP® or if you may need to obtain the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) ® Certification.

To apply for the PMP, you need to meet all education and experience prerequisites in one of the following two categories:

 

General Education

Project Management Experience

Project Management Education

Category A

Secondary Degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree or the global equivalent)

Minimum of five (5) years of non-overlapping project management experience, with 7,500 hours leading and directing projects

35 hours of project management education

Category B

A four-year degree (bachelor’s degree or the global equivalent)

Minimum of three (3) years of non-overlapping project management experience, with 4,500 hours leading and directing projects

35 hours of project management education

Project Management Professional (PMP)® Educational Track at MC:

For those experienced Project Managers with 3 to 5 years of Project Management experience and little or no formal training, the course sequence is:

PMP® Preparation

Our PMP® final courses (Certification Prep and Boot Camp) are designed to prepare individuals for the Exam. Candidates must meet education and experience requirements, agree to a professional code of conduct, and pass the PMP Exam. To see the requirements for the PMP®, please view the table above.

PMP® Application

The Application for the PMP® is one of the most tedious out there and audits are frequent.
You must provide information on meeting the prerequisite channels (from the table above). Here is more information about the specifics:

  • For Project Experience: You must have experience leading a project to meet the required hours. This is the primary reason for a tedious audit process. All hours must be recorded and references to the project may be required. Any hours towards the experience must have been completed within the last 7 years
  • For Educational Requirement: Report and/or claim courses as taken with Montgomery College. We are a registered education provider for PMI®.

PMP® Exam Details

Format of Exam:

  • Computer-based testing available year-round (no exam windows)

*Paper-based testing is available under limited circumstances

  • 200 multiple choice questions
  • Must complete the exam in 4 hours

The price to sit for an exam is:

  • For PMI Members: US$ 405.00
  • For PMI non-members: US$ 555.00
