Chief Science Officer: Pathways to Leadership, Careers in Life Science

A collaborative program among Montgomery College, Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences (FAES), Human Workflows, Montgomery County Dept. of Economic Development (DED), and the Federal Laboratories Consortium(FLC).

If you aspire to begin a pathway to scientific management and leadership, and perhaps become a Chief Science Officer, then this boot camp is for you! Outstanding faculty and industry guest speakers will guide you through this 45 hour boot camp divided into two modules. The series will provide you with the tools, knowledge, and skills needed to move up the career ladder from research into scientific management and leadership in the federal, academic, or commercial management career by adding this two part program and certificate of completion to your resume.

With the shift in available jobs moving away from academia, understanding the skills necessary to compete and succeed in business or industry setting is critical; yet training for these skills is rarely part of the traditional academic research scientist's curriculum. Chief Science Officer: Pathways to Leadership, Careers in Life Science introduces the 24 core business competencies essential for career success outside academia. This 45 hour program, divided into two modules, provides training in the following areas:

  • Developing people through leadership
  • Project management
  • Communications
  • Negotiation
  • First line supervision
  • Finance
  • Networking
The key to success is applying social intelligence in understanding who you are interacting with and how your story is important to THEM.
