Setting up automatic McAfee update on your home computer

McAfee LogoWhen you install McAfee on your home PC, you can set the software to automatically get virus updates from McAfee. This works great if you are on an "always on" the Internet computer, such as through cable or a DSL line. When you first install the program, check to see if Updates were turned on by default.

Do the following to schedule or verify the automatic updates:

  • Right-mouse click on the McAfee shield in the Windows System Tray (lower right hand corner of your Windows desktop, in line with the clock).
  • On the context menu, left-mouse click VirusScan Console.
  • In the VirusScan Console window, double-click AutoUpdate.
  • In the VirusScan AutoUpdate Properties window, click the Schedule button.
  • Verify that Schedule Settings section (on Task tab) has a checkmark in the box next to Enable.
  • Click the Schedule tab and set the schedule to run when you know your computer is most likely to be on.
  • Click¬†Okay and Okay.
