Need-based scholarships, which provide text book and tuition support to over 2,000 students each academic year. The Foundation also distributes thousands of dollars in assistance to dozens of students experiencing an emergency life situation.
The need for scholarships is great. During FY2016, approximately 30% of Montgomery College students received federal Pell Grants. The average household income of these recipients was $27,000, even though it costs $83,000 for a four person family with two working parents to afford the basic necessities in Montgomery County.
Applications for Foundation Scholarships have increased 77% from FY2015 to FY2016. The average scholarship is $1,000-$1,500 and most are given only after financial aid is awarded.
