In your first year at Montgomery College you lay the foundation for your future success. The First Year Experience Program at Montgomery offers activities, programs and courses to help you:
- ease into the demands and challenges of college life
- build relationships with counselors, faculty, staff and other students
- prepare you for academic success at MC and beyond.
FYE has 5 Basic Elements
- Meet with an Academic Advisor/Counselor
You’ll learn about academic resources and support services, how to select courses and register for classes, and to develop your Education Plan. Academic Advisors/Counselors can also help you with career, personal and transfer goals. New student advising begins by attending the Montgomery Advising Program (MAP), International Montgomery Advising Program (IMAP), or electronic version of the MAP (e-MAP).
- Attend New Student Orientation (NSO)
NSO will introduce you to the college experience. You’ll tour the campus, learn what to expect the first week of classes, find out about MC resources and support services, and interact with counselors, faculty, staff, and fellow students.
- Take First Year Seminars
Choose from an array of courses that focus on college success and life skills. Some options include DS 107 (First Year Seminar) and DS 104 (Seminar for International Students).
- Develop an Education Plan
With the help of a counselor you will design a dynamic roadmap that takes into account your own individual career and educational goals.
- Participate in First Year Activities
Make the most of your first year at MC. Activities include:
- Leadership training
- Student Senate
- Clubs
- Service learning
