ILL - Borrowing Policy:
Materials that the Montgomery College Libraries do not own can be borrowed through our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service. ILL requests can be submitted electronically from the below link. First time users will be prompted to register using their M number.
Fill in the form completely in the required fields. Do not leave
How Long Does It Take?
ILL can take up to two weeks to receive an item you request through Interlibrary Borrowing, while articles typically take less time. Some materials may be harder to obtain and may take longer. A maximum of 10 requests per week per patron will be processed. Additional requests may be processed as time and resources permit.
Due Dates and Renewals
Lending libraries determine the loan period and renewal policy for their materials. Most loans are for 3 to 4 weeks but may be longer. We can request an extension before the item is due. In addition, some libraries restrict certain rare items to library use only. All ILL items are subject to recall by the lending library. Borrowers are required to return recalled items immediately and are responsible for fines the lending library charges for lost or overdue items.
Overdue ILL items jeopardize the Montgomery College Libraries' relationship with other libraries that lend us their materials. Borrowers who fail to return or renew books by the due date may have their accounts blocked. Failure to return ILL materials on time may result in the suspension of ILL services until those items are returned. In addition, any late fees from the lender will be passed on to the borrower.
Lost or Damaged Items
ILL items are different from MC Libraries' materials because they belong to other libraries. Please protect and promptly return ILL items when due. Borrowers are responsible for damaged or lost items during the loan period. The replacement cost is determined by the lending institution.
What Materials Cannot Be Obtained Through ILL?
Titles held by the Montgomery College Libraries either in print or available electronically (check the MC Libraries Catalog). This includes items that are checked out for use or missing from the shelf.
Entire issues of periodicals.
More than 5 articles from the same periodical
Copies of periodical articles owned by any of the 3 campus libraries, unless the issue has been declared missing
Most reference titles/materials
Current edition of textbooks used for classes
Fees and Charges
Every effort is made to obtain materials at no cost, but in cases where fees may apply, you will be contacted first. You may add the amount you are willing to pay to your ILL request form. If you decline to pay a fee, and after contacting 10 libraries, we will consider that we have discharged our responsibility and will not request the item again. If fees apply, a personal check made out to the lending library is due at the time of pickup of the material.
ILL - Lending Policy:
Montgomery College-Interlibrary Loan provides materials to other libraries. ILL is a transaction between libraries. We do not accept requests from individuals.
