Steps to Enroll (Credit Courses)

1. Apply for Admissions

You are eligible to attend Montgomery College if:

• You have earned a high school diploma or passed the official General Education Development (GED) examination or
• You meet the early placement requirements and you can benefit from the programs and services of the College.
• Others may also, under certain circumstances, be considered for admissions.

How to Apply

• Apply online.
  Complete and submit an Online Application.
• Apply on paper.
  Complete MC's Application for Admissions (PDF - 634.36KB) and mail to the applicable campus.
• The paper application is required for:
  • Students under 18.
  • International Students requesting an I-20/F-1 Student Visa from Montgomery College.
• Pay the application fee.
  If you are applying for admission to Montgomery College as a credit student for the first time, submit your application along with a one-time, nonrefundable $25 fee.

Do I need to apply if I’ve enrolled at MC before?

Returning MC students do not need to complete the Admissions Application. If you have previously applied to Montgomery College, call 240-567-5000 to clarify your status and update your record.

2. Apply for Financial Aid

If you know that you will be applying for financial aid, you should complete the required forms as early as possible.

3. Take the Academic Assessment Test

Taking the College Placement Test

• Why?
  Your scores will help counselors and academic advisors recommend appropriate courses for you.
• Where?
  Each campus has its own testing center.
• When?
  Contact the testing center on the campus you will be attending to schedule a date and time for you to come in and take the tests.
• You may be exempt from testing
  Find out if you meet the qualifications to bypass the assessments tests. If you are exempt from testing, you should contact the Assessment Center at your campus.

4. Meet with an Advisor

Once you’ve completed your testing, you’ll need to schedule a time to meet with an advisor on your campus.

During this meeting you will:

• Receive and discuss your placement results.
• Determine prerequisites for your major or area of study.
  • The College Catalog offers detailed information about courses related to your major.
• Get assistance in choosing and registering for your courses.

New students who have already earned a degree through another institution, those designated as “personal interest”, and visiting students from other colleges are not required to attend an advising program, but may do so by choice.

5. Register and Pay for classes

Once you’ve selected your courses, you can register and pay online or in-person.
