Created in 2001 by Dr. Harold Barber, Global Connections was designed to provide an avenue to address the social, academic and cultural interests of the international student community at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus. Currently, more than one third of the Takoma Park/Silver Spring students are non-US citizens.
Over the years, we have sponsored a number of activities in collaboration with other units of the campus. These include F-1 orientation, transfer workshop and kick-off registration sessions. We have also brought in experts to discuss consumer education and health insurance matters.
The most recent additions to Global Connections include “Conversations” and the “International Buddy Program”. “Conversations” was launched based on the student survey results indicating a significant interest among students in enhancing their oral communication skills. The International Buddy Program was designed to provide a mentoring relationship between current international students and Montgomery College alumni.
Participation in all programs is open to students, faculty and staff.
