Department of Visual Arts and Design

With three possible degrees and a variety of disciplines––as well as continuing education classes––everyone interested in studying the visual or performing arts can find the right program of study in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts.

Fall 2017 Art internships are open to all MC art students. Internships are completed for credit and students receive $1000 stipend. The deadline to apply is May 1. Please download the application for more information. Download the application here.

Modern Dance Masterclass: Drawing with Movement
Learn movement and modern dance phrase work from the artistic director of UpRooted Dance, Keira Hart-Mendoza. This event is free for MC students, faculty, and staff. Space is limited to the first 20 participants.

Visual Arts Programs
If you want to pursue your art as part of a liberal arts education designed to transfer to both universities and art schools, then this is the program for you. As a student in Visual Arts, you will benefit from intensive and innovative studio art practice, and an outstanding education in the liberal arts and humanities—the basis for creative thought that fuels artistic expression.   More info>>

School of Art + Design
Do you eat, breathe, and sleep art? The School of Art + Design (SA+D) is for you. This program provides first-year students with a cohort experience that mirrors the first year at an art school. In their second year students focus their studies on studio art or graphic design and prepare for transfer to premier art colleges. SA+D is for focused students who are interested in pursuing a career in visual arts.   More info>>

Performing Arts
Do you love to perform? Do you appreciate watching theater or listening to music? Get started here! The performing arts area includes the disciplines of dance, film, music, and theater. Students may select from diverse offerings in both practical and appreciation courses in these disciplines. Many courses fulfill the arts distribution requirement under the Montgomery College's general education program.    More info>>
