County Funding/Issues
- Montgomery County is the largest source of funding for Montgomery College.
- FY2011 aid from Montgomery County is down by $8.4 million from FY 2010.
- Priorities for current and future fiscal years: protect current funding and avoid substantial reductions.
- Major capital priority for FY 2012: $12.2 million for Science East construction.
- Major operating budget priority for FY 2012: restoration of $4.6 million in county funding (original cut from County Executive was $7.6 million).
State Funding/Issues
- State Aid is the third largest source of funding for Montgomery College, after tuition.
- FY2011 aid from the State of Maryland was down by over 10% percent from FY 2009; we lost $4.1 million in that time.
- Priorities for current and future fiscal years: protect basic principles of the John A. Cade funding formula for community colleges; oppose any state proposals that would shift state share of teacher retirement to counties or the College.
- Major capital priority for FY 2012: $12.2 million for Science East construction.
- FY12 Outcome: level funding for Montgomery College; the General Assembly also approved a one-time tuition affordability grant to be shared across Maryland’s community colleges.
