Montgomery College must remain a priority for state and county funding.
Budget/Legislative Issues
County Funding/Issues
Montgomery County is the largest source of funding for Montgomery College.
- Our county aid has been reduced by $12 million in the last two years; students are picking up an increasing share of the budget. Montgomery County used to provide more than 50% of MC's budget; in FY12 county funds made up 43.5% of our current fund. We advocate for no further county cuts.
- New capital priorities: A Rockville Student Services Center and parking garage & the renovation of and addition to the Science and Applied Studies building at the Germantown Campus.
State Funding/Issues
- Protect the John A. Cade funding formula for community colleges. Total state aid is down from $2,157 per student in FY09 to $1,809 per student in FY12.
- Oppose proposals that would shift state funding of teacher pensions to the county or the College.
- New capital priorities: fully fund a request for a new Rockville Student Services Center & the renovation of and addition to the Science and Applied Studies building at the Germantown Campus (state provides 50% of funding).
