DSST Program

The DSST program allows students to take an exam based on knowledge acquired outside the classroom and earn Montgomery College transfer credit.

These exams were originally used in the Armed Services, but are now also available to civilian populations.

DSST exams are similar to CLEP, but also offer tests in more technical areas that are not available through CLEP.

DSST offers 38 exams in the areas of Social Science, Business, Mathematics, Applied Technology, Humanities, and Physical Science. Students can also view a Facts Sheet for each DSST exam.

Although Montgomery College is not currently a DSST test site, students with ties to the military have been able to take the exams through the educational office at local military installations.

The fee to take a DSST exam is $80. To find a testing center nearest you, go to Contact the testing center for requirements on how to register for a DSST exam.

Each transcript costs $30.  Visit for more information on how to request a transcript from DSST.
