Learn About the Transfer Student Alliance (TSA)

University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) is known for attracting highly motivated students - eager learners who get involved in their education.  A top research university with a national reputation, UMBC is a place where undergraduates have easy access to professors working on the cutting edge of their disciplines.  Every student has access to exceptional resources, stimulating teachers, and individual attention.

The Transfer Student Alliance (TSA) is for students who begin their college education at Montgomery College with plans to transfer to UMBC to complete a four-year degree.  MC students who have completed 12 credits with a minimum 3.2 GPA are eligible for consideration for the TSA program.

TSA Benefits for Students Ready to Transfer

  • Guaranteed transfer admission to UMBC.
  • Guaranteed on-campus housing upon initial enrollment at UMBC.
  • A $1,500 merit scholarship for each of two years of full-time study.

TSA Eligibility Requirements

  • Must have completed 12 credits with a minimum 3.2 GPA

How To Apply

After completion of 12 credits at MC with a cumulative 3.2 GPA, students can apply for the TSA program by completing the following steps:

The TSA program is intended for students in their first year of study at MC.  Students with fewer than 30 credits are eligible to apply.  However, you must have at least 12 credits at MC with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 in order to be considered for admission into the TSA program.

Enrollment forms for the TSA Program are accepted on a rolling basis.  For participation in the program benefits, please be sure to submit the TSA Enrollment Form.

TSA Application Deadlines

Students who anticipate having at least 12 credits and a cumulative 3.2 GPA by the end of the current semester should apply by:

January 1 to participate in program benefits for the following spring semester.

May 1 for the following fall semester.

TSA Program Requirements

To complete the TSA program, students must:

  • Complete an Associate's Degree with a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA within four years of initial program qualification.
  • Enroll at UMBC or a UMBC program at the Universities at Shady Grove within one year of completion of the Associate's Degree.
  • Must not enroll at any other institution of higher education after program acceptance.

REMEMBER: Students who have successfully completed the TSA program are guaranteed admission to UMBC.

Transfer To UMBC

After completing the TSA program, complete the following steps to transfer to UMBC:

  1. Meet with your counselor at Montgomery College.
  2. Submit all information listed on the UMBC Application Requirements for Transfer Students website.
