Welcome to the Rockville Campus of Montgomery College
Each semester more than 16,000 students from over 170 countries attend credit courses on our campus. The Rockville campus, with its central location in the City of Rockville, is the largest of the three campuses. It offers a wide variety of degrees and certificates that fulfill the needs of students who plan to transfer and pursue a baccalaureate degree as well as those who wish to prepare to enter or advance in the workforce. The campus offerings include exceptional programs in the sciences and in engineering, first class programs in the arts, extensive general education offerings, quality programs in technical education through the Gudelsky Institute of Technical Education, and a comprehensive honors program. Some of the special cohort programs that are found on the campus are the Montgomery Scholars Program (a selective admissions two-year honors program designed for high school graduates who plan to transfer to a four-year institution), the Macklin Business Institute Scholars Program (a distinctive honors program for first and second year business students), and the Biomedical Scholars (a program designed to pave the way to a successful career in the biomedical sciences). There is an extensive array of noncredit courses offered on the campus and the campus contributes to the intellectual life of the community as well as providing cultural and recreation offerings.
Summer 2011 marked the opening of the long-awaited Science Center. Construction on the 140,000 square foot, four-story building began in February of 2009, and in June 2011, chemistry and some biology classes were held here. It will be wonderful to have a full contingent of students, faculty and staff in the Center beginning with this fall semester. The departments of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Physical Sciences and Engineering are located in this building. The state-of-the-art Science Center connects to Science East so that students, faculty and staff can easily move between the science buildings. Work has begun on the renovation of Science East to be followed by Science West. During this renovation Science East will be closed.
The diversity of our campus community is one of the hallmarks of Montgomery College. We are an open door institution that provides access to higher education to students from many different backgrounds. The former chancellor of the City University of New York, Robert Kibbee, once said, “The quality of a university is measured more by the kind of student it turns out than the kind it takes in.” Our job is to work with students to help them succeed and reach their educational goals.
Please take the time to visit our campus and learn more about us and our programs.
