Attendance at a Financial Literacy session is required for a Federal Direct Stafford Loan borrower if you are a new student at Montgomery College (MC) or if you are a first time borrower at MC.  You must attend a 90 minute financial literacy session at one of the three campus locations.  Please be on time. The doors will close 5 minutes after the presentation is scheduled to start. To be eligible for the loan you must be registered for your classes and you must maintain a minimum of 6 credits for the fall semester. Please view the dates on the attached form for the 90 minute session that is convenient for your schedule in September if you did not attend a previous session. Funds will not disburse to the new student borrower account unless this requirement is met. Please contact Disability Support Services if you need accommodations. Contact the financial aid office if you have questions.

Our financial aid offices will be open on the three campus locations (Germantown, Rockville and Takoma Park/Silver Spring) on Saturday, August 25, 2012 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.  We  also have a scheduled  Financial Literacy Session (PDF 164 KB) from 10:00 am to 11:30 am on each campus. If you are interested in learning about loans, then this session may be valuable for you. You learn about borrower rights and responsibilities. You understand how to protect your identity and you receive detailed loan information.  If you are a first time loan borrower, attending a session will be required before funds post to your account. Generally, there are sessions scheduled every month, but you can complete this Saturday session before classes start. To attend the session review the PDF document above and arrive at the campus location before 10:00 am. Pleas sign the attendance sheet. You do not need an appointment. The doors close 5 minutes after the presentation is scheduled to start and students  who arrive late are not admitted.  Please be on time if you plan to attend the session.

Understanding Your Fall 2012 Pell Grant Disbursements

(Deadlines, General Information) Permanent link

Pell Grant recipients no longer have to be registered by a specific date to get their award.  Beginning with fall 2012, eligible students with classes starting later in the semester will be able to receive their Pell Grant.  The first fall 2012 financial aid disbursement (payment) of aid is scheduled to post to students’ accounts after September 27, 2012.  All students awarded by Montgomery College on or before September 27 will have eligible funds disbursed to their student account based on the current number of hours they are attending as of September 27, 2012.  Fall disbursements are scheduled to run weekly on Thursdays through December 13, 2012, excluding the week of Thanksgiving.   Students should budget wisely; funds will not disburse for a Part of Term until at least 10 days after the class start dates for each term.  Student award amounts, specifically Pell Grant, will adjust up and down when disbursed, based on the number of currently attending hours, completed hours, withdrawn, and or dropped classes on the disbursement dates. Understanding Your Pell Grant -  Fall 2012
