February Financial Literacy Sessions

Attention Spring 2012 Loan Borrower: Attendance at a Financial Literacy session is required for a Federal Direct Stafford Loan borrower if you are a new student at Montgomery College (MC) or if you are a first time borrower at MC for the spring 2012 term.  You must attend a 90 minute financial literacy session at one of the three campus locations.  Please be on time. The doors will close 5 minutes after the presentation is scheduled to start. To be eligible for the loan you must be registered for your classes and you must maintain a minimum of 6 credits for the semester.  

Please view the dates on the attached form for the 90 minute session that is convenient for your schedule in February,  if you did not attend a previous session this academic year. Funds will not disburse to the new student borrower account unless this requirement is met. Please contact Disability Support Services if you need accommodations. Contact the financial aid office if you have questions.

Spring 2012 Pell Lock Date February 3, 2012 at 5:00 pm

The spring 2012 Pell Lock date is Friday, February 3, 2012 at 5:00 pm.

The Pell Grant lock date is the date we determine your total credit hours to adjust your federal Pell Grant for the spring semester.  Students who have been awarded financial aid for spring 2012 and students who have completed their financial aid file for MC for fall will have a Pell Lock date of Friday, February 3, 2011 at 5:00 pm. If students have not yet completed a financial aid file for spring, their Pell Lock date will be the date the financial aid file becomes complete.

An example of how it works:

 We use your total semester credit hours or equivalent credit hours (for developmental classes) to determine your enrollment level.  This may not match the hours you are billed for tuition.

For example, if you are taking three classes billed at 5 hours each, but they earn only 3 credit hours each, you are enrolled in 9 credit hours for the semester and you are a three-quarter time student.

Some developmental classes earn 0 hours, but are billed at the equivalent of 3 or 5 credit hours. In these cases, we use the equivalent credit hours in your total enrollment.  We pay Pell Grant based on the eligible  hours you have at the close of business on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 5:00 pm.

Spring 2012 Book Credit Information 
From  January 17, 2012, through February 7, 2012 book credits will be available at your campus MC Books & More. You must have received your official MC Financial Aid award notification. You must have registered for your classes by midnight of January 16, 2012. You must have financial aid with expected financial aid funds greater than the cost of your tuition and fees.  Please check your MyMC financial aid awards to determine your approved book credit amount. You cannot use the book credit for online purchases.  You can use the service for school related items, such as books and supplies or other school related items such as a laptop. You cannot use the book credit for snacks, or non school related purchases.  

Visit the campus MC Books & More location where you attend classes to purchase your books. Bring your MC photo id and be sure you have a valid spring 2012 sticker on the card.

Case study:  Jane is still wait listed for a 3 credit class on January 15, 2012. She has 9 bill hours. Financial aid will authorize her book credit for eligible aid based on 9 bill hours for  ¾ time aid.

The book credits are not additional aid. We divert your expected refund to the bookstore up to a maximum of $ 750.00. There is a minimum of $ 25.00.

 

Is Your Financial Aid File Complete?(2)

Registration for spring 2012  is underway. Students must complete MC financial aid forms in addition to the FAFSA. If you apply after our priority deadline of November 1, 2011, you will be reviewed for aid in date order of file completion at MC.  Please make payment arrangements if your FAFSA will not arrive at MC by Tuesday, January 10, 2012.

Your account  may be reimbursed to the extent of eligible aid as determined later in the semester. Please look at the financial aid deadline chart for services  that we provide to students based on the date we received your FAFSA.
