Montgomery College’s first classes were held in the evenings at a local high school on September 16, 1946. Our total enrollment was 186 men and women. Today, we serve nearly 60,000 students a year as they pursue a wide variety of educational goals.
Dr. Hercules Pinkney has been an effective leader of the College for nearly ten years. After serving as the Vice President and Provost of the Germantown Campus for six years, Dr. Pinkney took on the role of Interim President in September 2009.
Campus Information
Our scenic Germantown campus is located just 30 miles north of Washington, D.C. A Bioscience Education Center and a 40-acre Science & Technology Park are both scheduled to begin construction, and will increase the College’s contributions to the community and the world beyond.
The Rockville Campus is now Montgomery College's largest, with an enrollment of more than 15,000 full- and part-time students. Readily accessible by bus and the Metro rail system, this campus offers more than 600 courses in over 40 areas of study. People of all ages attend classes on this culturally diverse campus, while thousands of others enjoy art shows, conferences, lectures, movies, plays and more here. The new science center under construction will provide much-needed, modernized labs and additional classroom space for the growing science, engineering and mathematics programs at the Rockville Campus.
The Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus is located in a dynamic urban neighborhood. We offer a comprehensive educational experience with signature programs in Health Sciences and the Visual and Performing Arts. In support of these programs, we’ve opened new health sciences facilities and are nearing completion on a new performing arts center with a 500-seat theater and dance studio.
The Workforce Development & Continuing Education (WD&CE) programs at Montgomery College provide a wide range of pre- and post-degree educational offerings and services designed to meet the needs of county residents and businesses. Individuals in career transitions, those reentering the workforce, and those maintaining current technical skills, as well as those seeking lifelong educational enrichment experiences, are among the more than 25,000 students of the WD&CE programs each year. With more than 1,700 courses offered year-round, the chances of finding a course of interest are excellent. These course offerings change continuously to reflect the ever-changing needs of the businesses and communities we serve.
