Please consider attending the Maryland Distance Learning Association (MDLA) Fall Event. This event is free for MDLA members so may register right away. As our travel budgets shrink, it is nice to have a local half-day event that does not include a hefty registration cost!

You do not need to be a distance learning/online expert to attend. Our main focus will be on the teaching and learning process: Walking Off the Beaten Path - Innovative Approaches to Teaching & Learning. There will be discussions from which every faculty member can benefit.

Consider proposing as well! We'd love to hear your opinions and expertise regarding teaching with innovative approaches! Contract Gloria Barron if you have any questions.

YouTube - Using the Automatic Captions Feature Workshop

This workshop will show participants how to use the Automatic Captions feature in YouTube. Participants will learn how closed captions are generated for any narrated video uploaded into a personal account. By attending this workshop, participants will be able to follow step by step instructions for adding and editing closed captions to their own uploaded videos.

The first one hour of the workshop will be a demo of the YouTube automatic captions feature. Participants will spend the last 30 minutes to work on their own video uploaded into their personal YouTube Account.


The One Button Studio: Video Production Experience Not Needed!

The One Button Studio is a simplified video recording setup that you can use to create high-quality video projects without having any previous experience with computers, software, lights, or cameras.

Developed by Penn State University, the One Button Studio was designed with faculty and students in mind. This is a unique and automated setup which provides you with a simple alternative for producing a portable high quality video recording very quickly and effortlessly. STEAMed Rice: Exploring the Intersection Between Global Humanities and STEM Through Food

In addition to hearing from Dr. Eliza Reilly, Director of Programs for the National Center for Science and Civic Engagement, participants engaged in table discussions led by pairs of STEM and Humanities faculty. Fall 2015 Blackboard Instructors - Supplemental Course Request Information

Blackboard Logo Beginning with the Fall 2015 semester, all credit courses will automatically receive a Blackboard course shell. This eliminates the need for faculty to request supplemental sites for Fall 2015 and beyond. WD&CE faculty will continue to use the form to request supplemental sites, and for the remainder of the Spring 2015 semester and the summer sessions, all faculty will continue to submit this request form. Also note that MyMC Course Tools will no longer be available after the second summer session (201610).

iStream Subscription

Looking for professional development 24/7? The League for Innovation in the Community College’s iStream is a web-based, multimedia portal where faculty, administrators and staff can access videos, articles, publications and learning programs. In addition, iStream provides access to League conference presentations, services, partnerships and collaborative communities. For example, July’s focus is on Pathways to Completion and includes access to presentations and articles on this theme. Access to iStream is free for Montgomery College employees. Follow these simple directions to create your account:

Go to; Click on “Create Your iStream Account”, In the next window, select Montgomery College from the dropdown menu; Enter your first and last name and college email address, Click “Submit”. You will receive a confirmation email with instructions on logging in and creating your password. CLICK HERE for details about what you have access to through the iStream subscription.
