CTL: End of the Year 2012
As the current academic year winds down, it seems appropriate to let each of you know what your CTL has been doing this school year. The transition of the CTL from a centralized model to a faculty-based, campus-based model has been well-received because of the involvement of you and your colleagues. The CTL Faculty Associates – Jill Kronstadt, Germantown; Nawal Benmouna, Rockville; and Lauralyn McWilliams, Takoma Park/Silver Spring – have done a superb job of spear-heading campus work groups to offer professional development opportunities and plan for next year. All of these workshops are what you have asked for, either through conversations or formal written proposals.
In addition, the Professional Development Program offered a variety of opportunities for new and experienced faculty. Inquiry-based Learning, Classroom Assessment Techniques and Culturally Responsive Teaching are just a few of the series that engaged faculty and propelled them to use new techniques inside the classroom.

CTL Faculty Associate Nomination 2012-13
The Center for Teaching and Learning is seeking nominations for Faculty Associates to help full-time and part-time faculty enrich the teaching and learning process. Each campus will have a Faculty Associate appointed for the 2012-2013 academic year who will join the current campus Faculty Associate. The two-year appointment carries 3 ESH per semester for a commitment of approximately 10 hours/week.
Those nominated need to possess the ability to design and deliver workshops that focus on pedagogical strategies aimed at improving student success. In addition, Faculty Associates must understand the professional development needs of the faculty at their campus. Faculty Associates will be regular presenters in the CTL's Professional Development Program for New Faculty. It is expected that Faculty Associates will have experience presenting for the CTL or presenting at regional or national conferences. Regular office hours will be held for faculty seeking assistance from the Faculty Associates.
Nominations can come from deans, chairs, Faculty Councils or faculty members themselves and should be submitted by May 1 to Dr. Michael Mills, interim director of the CTL. Use the attached form to submit a nomination.
The CTL Transition Advisory Group and the interim director will review the nominations before a decision is announced. Each nomination must include why the faculty member is qualified to be a CTL Faculty Associate. All nominations must also include a comment of support from the faculty member’s dean.
While the deadline for nominations is fast approaching, the Advisory Group is excited about the possibilities offered by this campus-centered faculty support model.
