Welcome to the Business, Economics, Accounting, Computer Applications, Hospitality Management, and Paralegal Studies (BEACAHMPS) Area. We offer programs of study leading to degrees that transfer to four-year schools and to degrees and certificates that will prepare students for an exciting career. Beginning in the spring 2015 semester, we will offer for the first time fully online degrees in both business and in information systems.
BEACAHMPS is academically diverse, and is rich in opportunities for our students. Our excellent faculty and staff are dedicated to the success of our students. Besides the disciplines listed above, the area includes the Macklin Business Institute, the Hillman Entrepreneurship Program, and the Marriott Hospitality Center. The Department of Business, Economics, Computer Applications, and Hospitality Management on the Rockville campus is chaired by Ms. Georgia Buckles. The Department of Business, Economics, Accounting, Computer Applications, and Paralegal Studies, covering the Germantown and TPSS campus, is chaired by Ms. Andrea Foster.
The MacklinBusiness Institute (MBI) students lead the way to success in the MBI Café, Enactus projects, national competitions, and honors courses. MBI offers a two-year program for accepted freshmen and a sophomore program for second year students; both programs focus on experiential learning initiatives to provide students with real world skills in business, accounting, and finance. The MBI also sponsors lectures that are open to the public.
The Hillman Entrepreneurs Program is a scholarship and educational program. The program strives to support, develop, and graduate ethical leaders who want to energize and give back to their local communities. Open to all transferable majors starting at Montgomery College and finishing at the University of Maryland, CollegePark. In addition to financial support, students receive one-on-one advising and mentoring, develop entrepreneurial/leadership skills, become members of a group of aspiring entrepreneurs, have summer internship opportunities, and earn an associate’s degree from Montgomery College
The Marriott Hospitality Center was created through a $1million grant from the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation. The center is for the exclusive use of hospitality management students and includes a state-of-the-art instructional kitchen used for food production and catering classes, a hospitality/culinary library, and a computer lab.
