Welcome to the Germantown Art Department!
The Germantown Art Department offers Associate of Arts degrees in Art and Art History, as well as an Associate of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art. Within the department, we offer courses in drawing, design, color, painting, printmaking, graphic design, and art history. Art majors receive a comprehensive education that emphasizes breadth and depth in the studio art and art history disciplines, and work closely with Art faculty advisors to develop portfolios to facilitate transfer to top four-year Art schools and universities.
In addition, we offer 9 courses in studio art, art history, and graphic design that fulfill the Arts Distribution requirement under the College’s General Education program. Studio art courses do not require an ENGL 101 assessment level, and are available to students currently in ENGL 001 and 002, as well as AELW courses.
The Germantown Art department has three full-time faculty members in studio art and graphic design, who are professional working artists. In addition, we have thirteen professional adjunct faculty members, with specialties in a range of fields. Studios and faculty offices are housed in the Humanities and Social Sciences Building, and in the High Technology and Science Center. For additional information, please contact the Art Department Chair, Michael Farrell, at 240-567-7650, or the Germantown Art Department Coordinator, David Carter, at 240-567-6916.
