Welcome to the Humanities division at Montgomery College. Our faculty are selected from among the most current scholars, practitioners, and academics in the nation, and includes disciplines and modes of inquiry that provide strong intellectual and cultural foundations for the study of human life. They teach in state-of-art classrooms, online/digital environments, or at our learning centers. Many regularly take advantage of the professional development opportunities available for further exposure to best practices of teaching and learning. As Dean of Instruction, Tony Hawkins manages the Humanities' resources to help fulfill the College's mission and vision, as well as guides the division’s operations in responsive and relevant ways.
Our courses in history, political science, philosophy, world languages, and American Sign Language are housed in four departments across the three Montgomery College Campuses. We are also home to the Women's and Gender Studies program and Peace and Justice Studies Community.
In addition, students and community members are able to find a broad array of thought-provoking and inspiring lectures, exhibits and performances and continuing education courses. By being accountable the Humanities division continuously assesses student learning and meaningful goal completion to demonstrate our unique contribution to the betterment of Montgomery County residents, Marylanders and citizens.
