During the 2012-2013 academic year, the Science, Engineering, and Mathematics Area will be sponsoring the “You Teach on YouTube: A STEM Video Contest”, which is funded by a Montgomery College Foundation Innovation Grant. The aim of this contest is to generate interest in STEM subjects and to provide a fun opportunity for students to work together and to engage in STEM learning outside of the classroom.
The contest opens on October 1, 2012, with Preliminary Plans due November 15, 2012, and final entries due March 1, 2013. A flier about the contest is provided at the bottom of this web page.
To enter the contest, students will be required to obtain faculty approval for their preliminary plans. The purpose of this is to ensure that students choose an appropriate topic (i.e. a STEM concept that is taught in an MC course) that is not too broad in scope, and that they have a reasonable plan for producing the video. We expect students to meet and talk with faculty about their plans, but these meetings should be relatively brief. Please note that we have limited funds for supplies (max. $50 per team), and requests will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. Details are presented with the official rules at the bottom of this web page.
We hope that this contest will produce a collection of fun and creative videos about STEM topics that can also be used in the future in classrooms.
