Mentoring Network

The Montgomery College Mentoring Network is a collegewide initiative aimed at providing additional support to aid in the retention and persistence of MC students. The Network will streamline, document and recognize mentoring “pockets” that exist at MC. The Network will also serve as a formal way for all MC employees, regardless of areas of responsibility, to engage in promoting student success. Mentoring works because it helps students to develop a sense of community, aids in understanding the campus culture and allows faculty/staff to share in student development.

Research has proven that when students form connections at their respective institutions in which they attend, it increases engagement opportunities, retention and persistence (Pascarella & Terenzini, 2005; Kuh 2010, 2016). All of these are key factors in student success! Mentoring is sure way to help engage students with their peers and faculty/staff. For students, mentoring offers opportunities for learning beyond the classroom, connecting with peers and developing valuable life and leadership skills that are useful even after attending Montgomery College. For faculty/staff, mentoring provides time to share personal interests all while giving back and being of service to MC students. Whether student, faculty or staff, mentoring is a great way to get involved and contribute to the growth and development of students at Montgomery College.
