Honors Programs

  • Collegewide Honors Program

  • The collegewide Honors Program was created for high-ability students seeking exciting and academically rewarding experiences. It allows students to discover and develop their talents and interests through: honors courses, seminars, independent study, internships, service learning, and social and cultural activities.

    The collegewide Honors Program features three special programs:

  • Renaissance Scholars

    Renaissance Scholars is a selective honors program for full- and part-time students offered evenings and weekends at the Germantown and Takoma Park/Silver Spring campuses. They receive scholarship support, special advising, and the opportunity to earn College credit for a summer study/travel experience.

  • Montgomery Scholars

    Each year, the Montgomery Scholars Program accepts 25 outstanding high school graduates in this academically challenging program. The program combines a rigorous curriculum of honors courses, special advising, and an honors capstone research project.

  • Macklin Business Institute (MBI) Honors Program

    The Gordon and Marilyn Macklin Business Institute Honors Program offers honors work in economics, statistics, and other core business courses that allows students to build relationships with faculty and local corporate executives. The program also offers an internship.

  • Biomedical Scholars

    In the Biomedical Scholars Program, students join a small learning community of peers and faculty. They receive personal academic and transfer advising, tutorials, and mentoring. They also attend a six-week freshman summer bridge program, which eases the transition from high school to college.

  • School of Art and Design

    In the School of Art and Design program, students earn an associate of fine arts degree, with concentrations in either studio art or graphic design and an emphasis on portfolio development. The degree is designed as the first half of a four-year bachelor of fine arts degree.

  • If you are up for an additional challenge, we offer honors seminars, honors courses, independent study and tutorials, and honors modules.
