Service-Learning & Volunteerism at Montgomery College

What is Service-Learning?

Service-Learning is:
  • A teaching method using community service that addresses real community needs and reflection assignments that demonstrate student learning
  • A form of active learning that values critical thinking and problem solving
  • A pedagogically sound approach linked to higher GPAs, increased student retention, and enhanced civic engagement
  • A great "hands on" experience for students in any class

Assignments are tailored to each course, with reflections activities and learning assessments that help students connect the service to in-class learning objectives--and faculty measure that learning.
