The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie  /uploadedImages/EDU/Counseling_and_Advising/First_Year_Experience/Resources/shermanbook.jpg

The Common Reading Experience: open to all

Read, reflect, and act through the First-Year Common Reading Experience!  During the 2011-2012 academic year the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus of Montgomery College will have the opportunity to come together around the reading of Sherman Alexie's noteworthy and best selling book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.  Although designed with the first year students and faculty and staff who work with first year students, the common reading is open to the entire campus community.

Participation: as much or a little as you like

Students, faculty and staff will be encouraged to participate in lectures, films, workshops, service learning, and classroom activities centered on the themes in Alexie’s New York Times best seller. The Common Reading Experience is being formulated by the First Year Experience (FYE) Team on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus allowing participants to choose their level of involvement.

Our diversity is our strength

This multi-disciplinary team is made up of faculty and staff from around the campus devoted to offering enriching experiences and resources to First Year students and the wider campus community who chooses to participate in the Common Reading Experience. Read, reflect, act!
