What courses do I take at Montgomery College prior to transfer?

Students who wish to earn a four-year bachelor's degree in Accounting are advised to follow the Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree in Business.  Most four-year accounting degrees require that students specialize in accounting courses in the junior and senior year (in 300- and 400-level courses), taking only ACCT 221 & 222 Principles of Accounting I and II at MC prior to transfer.  Please go to the Business - Advising by Major page for details on majoring in Business at MC.

In order to earn the CPA (Certificate in Public Accountancy), students must first complete a four-year bachelor's degree (120 credits total), plus earn an additional 30 credits, as well as fulfill other requirements.  See the complete list of information regarding earning the CPA at the Maryland Board of Public Accountancy website.

Transfer Agreements

MC no longer offers a full AAS degree in Accounting.  Students who previously completed this degree can discuss how it will transfer to UMUC (the University of Maryland, University College).  Most four-year institutions prefer that students take only ACCT 221 & 222 @ MC, then complete upper-level accounting courses after transfer.
