Drawing Workshop Series
Learn new and exciting drawing techniques that enable you to tap into your creativity. You may take the workshops individually or as a full series. All materials provided!
Instructor: Peter Halsey (Germantown), Kaltoum Maroufi Colle (Takoma)

Each workshop is 3 hours
Cost per workshop: $22 + $18 fee = $40; NMR add $30

Drawing Workshop 1: Drawing Basics
Learn basic drawing techniques using pencil, graphite, and tortillons. This workshop is geared toward optimizing use of materials. Theme illustrated: fruit (still life).

Drawing Workshop 2: Inks
Draw from observation using ink (nibs and/or ballpoint and fountain pens) and learn to optimize the use of hatching and cross-hatching. Theme illustrated: books and vase.

Introduction to Figure Drawing
This introductory course is a study of drawing the human form and is intended for students who have completed an introductory drawing class. Topics include proportion, basic anatomy, and a variety of drawing techniques including gesture, contour, outline, and tonal modeling. No model fees. Prerequisite: ADS039 Intro to Drawing, ART032 Drawing I, or equivalent experience. Tuition waiver applies; seniors pay fee only.

Painting: Beginning Watercolor
Learn the basic tools and techniques of watercolor painting in this introductory class. Emphasis on how to utilize color in creating an effective composition. Demonstration, discussion, and critiques will augment studio work. Bring tubes of red, blue, and yellow watercolor paint, a one-inch flat watercolor brush, and a jar for water to the first class. Subject matter includes still life, landscape, and portrait painting. Tuition waiver applies; seniors pay fee only.

Chinese Brush Painting: Flowers, Birds and Landscape
Learn the foundational strokes and principles of composition for Chinese painting using brushes, sumi-e ink, and Chinese watercolors to paint on rice paper. Subjects include the classical "Four Gentlemen" (bamboo, orchid, plum, and chrysanthemums), daffodil with bees, cherry blossom with bird, and iris with chick and other insects and birds. Upon completion of this course, students will complete a painting for each subject. Chinese painting wet mount will be taught at the end of class. Tuition waiver applies; seniors pay fee only.

Video Editing Part I: Premiere Pro Basics
Use Adobe Premiere Pro CC to edit digital videos for artistic, commercial, educational, and personal use. Learn basic editing techniques, use of the title tool, layering videos, mixing sound, moving clips, and exporting your finished product. Please bring a 500GB+ USB3.0 external hard drive, headphones with a 3.5 mm jack, and your MyMC login to the first class. Prerequisite: ADS430 Free Mac OSX Crash Course, ADS 319 Intro to Graphic Design Software, or experience using Mac computers. Tuition waiver applies; seniors pay fee only.

Get a basic introduction to the study of narrative film. Analysis of film structure and content will be developed. Basic film technique and language are examined. Stand-up Comedy: Introduction
Ever wanted to give stand-up comedy a try? Learn to use your own life experiences and unique sense of humor to create an original 3-minute comedy routine to perform in front of a live audience. The course will cover joke- and comedy-writing basics, stage techniques, and comedic persona—all in a fun, interactive, and supportive atmosphere. Bring something to write on and record with (like a smartphone) to the first class. Tuition waiver applies; seniors pay fee only.
