Hip Hop Dance NEW
Are you interested in learning a fun, high energy, and current dance? In this class, you will learn about the different styles of hip hop, such as popping and locking, and develop your own sense of creative, urban style. All levels welcome!

Salsa Dance Tuition reduced!
Learn how to salsa with us! All experience levels are welcome. Originating from the Caribbean, salsa is one of the most popular and social dance forms. Learn basic steps, different forms, and patterns. Continue practicing your skills at one of the many venues offering salsa dance events in the area.

Introduction to Tap Dance Tuition reduced!
Learn the basics of tap dance technique as you express your inner rhythms through your feet. Shuffle, flap, and paddle and roll in simple rhythmic combinations using both structure and improvisation. Experience percussive style tap while dancing to Motown, Beatles and Stones, Reggae, and Jazz tunes. Shim-Sham, the National Tap Dance, will also be taught.

Dance: Introduction
An examination of dance as an art form and means of multicultural expression, ritual, and tradition. Learn the practices, philosophies, terminologies, and styles of dance and careers in dance. The role of dance in world societies and how it relates to different cultures is explored through lectures, assigned readings, films, recordings, and experiential dance activities.

An introduction to fundamental exercises, techniques, and movement phrases of modern dance. Basic modern dance principles are introduced in axial and locomotor exercises and basic improvisation skills. Modern dance innovators and their styles are discussed. Music Production for the iPad NEW
All equipment provided, including iPads. Mobile devices have become a recognized alternative to more traditional music production tools, especially when it comes to developing your own musical concepts. This course will teach you how to create ideas, record, mix, and master music entirely on the iPad. Learn to set up a mobile studio and work with GarageBand and the more advanced Cubasis and iReal Pro. The skills you learn on the provided iPad can be applied to music production on your Android or IOS smartphone or tablet.

Introduction to West African Drumming Tuition reduced!
Learn how to play traditional and contemporary drum rhythms of West Africa! In this class, you will learn how to play different drums such as dundunset, djembe, and kpanlogo. Sing and dance while learning the names of instruments and their functions in West African communities. Focus will be on fumefume and kuku rhythms.

Maryland Band Directors’ Band
Study and perform classic band literature of grades IV and above. For professional musicians such as music teachers, military band personnel and freelance performers.   Participation is open to outstanding non-teachers by audition.  Six rehearsals and two concerts per semester. 1.5 CEUs per semester. Fundamentals of Play Directing NEW
An introduction to the basic techniques, principles, and disciplines of directing for the theatre. The director’s role, composition, script analysis, movement and rhythm, and production preparation and procedures will be covered. At the conclusion of the course, the student will prepare a one-half hour production for performance. Additional time outside of class for rehearsals will be required.
