The Department of Visual and Performing Arts welcomes students to its beautiful facilities housed in the Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation Arts Center and Cultural Arts Center. Students may select from diverse offerings at the introductory and advanced level in studio arts, art history, dance, music, theatre, and film. Art majors receive a comprehensive education and advising that will facilitate transfer to top four-year art schools and universities. A wide variety of courses offered in both studio and performing arts fulfill the arts distribution requirement under the College’s general education program.
The visual arts program, emphasizing intensive and innovative studio practice offers associate degrees including art, art history, and studio art. The School of Art and Design, a special program within the department, features once a week, all-day studio classes, and offers an Associate of Fine Arts in both graphic design and studio art.
The Performing Arts program includes a selection of classes in theatre, dance, music, and Montgomery College’s only array of film classes, including screenwriting, movie production, and editing.
The Department of Visual and Performing Arts operates two professional art galleries, an artist-in-residence program, and presents a variety of theatre productions. The department faculty includes 11 full-time and more than 30 part-time members. The Department and Visual Arts faculty offices are located in Suite 120 in the Cafritz Art Center. The Performing Arts faculty are located in Suite 112 in the Cultural Arts Center.
