Welcome to the Germantown English and Reading Department
The Germantown English and Reading Department welcomes new and returning students to a wide variety of classes, both on campus and online. The Developmental English program offers courses for native speakers of English who need additional work and support to prepare for college level courses. The credit-level composition courses provide comprehensive instruction in essay writing, critical thinking, research, and argumentation.
In addition, the English Department offers a number of professional writing courses in Grammar, Technical Writing (for which a certificate is available), Creative Writing, and Journalism. Finally, we offer a variety of literature courses that satisfy General Education requirements for graduation and transfer.
The Reading Program offers Developmental Reading courses for native speakers of English. College Reading Skills I and II develop reading and critical thinking skills essential for success in all college level courses. Reading and Study in College Content Areas is a credit course designed to develop reading skills in content areas.
The Department and faculty offices are located in Suite 140 of the Paul Peck Academic and Innovation Building (PK). For additional information, please contact the English and Reading Department at 240-567-2012.
