Dr. DeRionne P. Pollard Named President of Montgomery College
Dr. DeRionne P. Pollard has been named as the next president of Montgomery College. Dr. Pollard brings 15 years of community college teaching and leadership experience to Montgomery College. She currently serves as the president of Las Positas College in Livermore, California.
“The Board of Trustees looks forward to the leadership that Dr. Pollard will bring to one of the country’s best community colleges,” said Dr. Michael Lin, chair of the Montgomery College Board of Trustees. “Throughout the search process, Dr. Pollard impressed both the board and the search advisory committee by her passion and devotion to the advancement of the community college mission and the students we serve. Montgomery College students have long benefited from the dedication of faculty and staff, and the support from alumni, elected officials, business leaders, and the community. Dr. Pollard has the perfect combination of experience and leadership skills to help Montgomery College build on our long history of success and move confidently into the future.”
Dr. Pollard will officially start her role as president on August 2, 2010. She will become the ninth chief executive officer in the College’s 64-year history.

The Montgomery College Board of Trustees is conducting a formal search for the ninth president of Montgomery College. The information available on the presidential search web site is intended to inform faculty, staff, students, and other interested parties about the progress being made by the Presidential Search Advisory Committee, chaired by Mr. Steve Kaufman. Additionally, potential candidates can easily access information about Montgomery College, Montgomery County, the surrounding national capital region, and the presidential search process.
Our new president will provide the leadership to sustain the remarkable momentum achieved in recent years at a community college nationally recognized for:
- Students from more than 170 different countries attend Montgomery College, making the College the most culturally diverse community college in Maryland.
- Supportive alumni, donors, elected officials and trustees, who together ensure new and improved facilities, expanded academic programs, and recently completed a $25 million fundraising campaign.
- Nearly 4,500 students annually (with 12 or more credits) transfer to more than 325 schools.
- Unique internship programs at the Smithsonian Institution, the Library of Congress and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. MC is the only community college in the nation to offer these student opportunities.
- The largest engineering program in the country among community colleges with more than 900 students enrolled annually, many transferring to top four-year institutions.
- A broad range of honors programs, which include special seminars, scholarship support, and study abroad opportunities at the University of Cambridge.
