Honors Programs

Montgomery College offers four honors programs, each with distinct advantages.

Macklin Business Institute

The Gordon and Marilyn Macklin Business Institute is a competitive, college-wide program offering business students an opportunity to pursue honors work in business, economics, and accounting. 

In this program, you are mentored by both a faculty member and a corporate executive.  You also participate in a business internship and weekly honors seminar. 

The program is based at the Rockville campus.

Montgomery Scholars

Montgomery Scholars student gives presentationIf you join the Montgomery Scholars program, you will participate in an academically rigorous curriculum of honors courses, including team-taught, interdisciplinary classes especially designed for the Montgomery Scholars program. 

The Montgomery Scholars Program is a selective-admissions program that receives applications from students currently enrolled in their final year of high school.  

The program is based at the Rockville campus.

Renaissance Scholars

The Renaissance Scholars Program is designed for both part-time and full-time students interested in a challenging curriculum. 

The program is built around team-taught, pairs of courses that are offered in the evenings and on weekends.

This program is offered at both the Germantown and Takoma Park/Silver Spring campuses.

The Scholars Circle

honors group of students outdoorsThe Scholars Circle is a college-wide program designed for the high-achieving student.  As a member of The Scholars Circle, you’ll receive special advising including schedule, scholarship, and transfer counseling.  You can also participate in several special activities set up for honors students such as clubs, honors colloquia, trips to honors conferences, and theater performances.

The Scholars Program requires that participating students complete a minimum of 15 honors credits in at least three different disciplines.   For example you could take honors level classes in humanities, social sciences, and sciences.  Honors credits must be completed over a minimum of two semesters.  Students must maintain a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average to remain in the program and to receive the M.C. Honors Program designation on their transcripts.  

Students who do not enroll in The Scholars Circle but wish to take honors classes must still meet The Scholars Circle eligibility requirements.
