Mr. Ed Roberts

Dean Ed Roberts ImageEd Roberts joined the Montgomery College faculty in 1992 as an associate professor and program coordinator for Building Trades Technology. In 2000, Mr. Roberts was appointed acting dean of Applied Technologies and the Gudelsky Institute. Shortly thereafter, he was selected as the instructional dean. With over thirty years of experience in education and technical training, Mr. Roberts began his career as an industrial arts high school teacher in New Jersey. He also taught at several universities, conducted professional training in the public and private sectors, and served as a program director with the Mid-Atlantic Centers for Race and Sex Equity at The American University providing consultation and technical assistance to public school systems throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. He served as director of the Building Industry Institute, Inc., an organization affiliated with the Maryland National Capital Building Industry Association. Mr. Roberts earned a certificate in Architectural Design and Building Construction Technology from Temple University Technical Institute, a B.S. in Occupational Education from Southern Illinois University, and an M.A. from Glassboro (now Rowan) State University. He has completed all but the dissertation for a Ph.D. in Industrial Education at the University of Maryland, College Park. Ms. Chantal Vilmar

Department Chair for Applied Technologies and Gudelsky Institute for Technical Education

Chantal Vilmar joined the Montgomery College faculty in 2005 as an associate professor for Interior Design. Ms. Vilmar has been program coordinator for the Interior Design program and department chair for Applied Technologies. In 2014, Professor Vilmar was appointed department chair for Applied Technologies and Gudelsky Institute for Technical Education. Professor Vilmar earned a B.A. from the Fashion Institute of Technology and an M.Ed from Bank Street College of Education. Professor Vilmar's office is located in room TC 208 in the Technical Center on the Rockville campus. Applied Technologies offers associate in applied science degree programs in Architecture, Construction Management, Geography, Landscape Technology and Interior Design. Each program offers a certificate option and letters of recognition. The programs are comprehensive, focusing on theory and experience through practical application activities; Applied Geography, Architectural Technology, Construction ManagementLandscape Technology and Interior Design. The Homer S. Gudelsky Institute for Technical Education is a public-private, joint venture providing state-of-the-art technical education and training opportunities for the community. The programs are a direct result of ongoing partnerships with local business and industry to identify and respond to the technical training needs of our community. The Gudelsky Institute offers instructional programs in four primary program areas;  Automotive TechnologyBuilding & Construction Technology, Computer Publishing & Printing, Workforce Technologies. Each area offers seven instructional delivery options; Customized Contract Training, Apprenticeship-Related Instruction, On-Site and Off-Site Training, Long or Short Term Training, Certificate Programs, Associates of Applied Science Degrees and Credit and Non-credit Courses.
