What does the Office of Compliance do?
The Office of Compliance is responsible for overseeing, monitoring and coordinating compliance matters for the College, including applicable county, state, and federal laws, regulations, and other requirements. The office will facilitate a communication and education effort to ensure that the College community is aware and informed of pertinent laws and regulations. The Compliance Office also will direct and advise College employees, as well as monitor the implementation of adequate internal controls and quality assurance processes to consistently meet requirements of the laws and regulations.
The efforts of the Office of Compliance include:
- elucidating laws and regulations;
- analyzing processes for practical implementation;
- establishing best practices;
- recommending, as necessary, changes to College policy and procedures;
- tracking and reporting the College's responses to risks and areas of concern; and,
- implementing corrective action plans for the resolution of compliance vulnerability and risk, and providing general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similiar situations in the future.
The responsibility of maintaining compliance is not the sole responsibility of this office; compliance is the responsibility of specific individuals and units. All members of the College community must conduct themselves ethically and in compliance with any and all laws and regulations that apply to their activities.
Does the Office of Compliance monitor compliance to Montgomery College’s policies and procedures?
The Office of Compliance focuses on compliance to federal, state and local laws and regulations. Additionally, the office reviews College policies and proceedures to assure they align with laws and regulations.
Do other colleges and universities have similar programs?
More and more universities are realizing the positive impact a compliance program can have on their schools. Institutions are creating these programs to ensure that their employees are properly handling and protecting their financial resources, operations, strategies, community members and reputation.
How will this affect me?
The success of the compliance program requires diligence by all faculty and staff at Montgomery College. Throughout the year, employees will be asked to participate in training, quality assurance reviews and other activities designed to improve the College's business processes and legal compliance.
