On April 14, the Germantown Campus
welcomed the fifth feature in the Frank Islam Athenaeum Symposia. The screening
of the drama NOOR, written by Akbar Ahmed and directed by Manjula Kumar, was
followed by a panel discussion with the director, actors, and symposia
benefactor Frank Islam.
On April 30, the Germantown Campus
welcomed the final speaker of the Frank Islam Athenaeum Symposia. International
singer Charles Williams sang selections from Porgy and Bess and recited poetry
by Langston Hughes. Mr. Williams was accompanied by Betty Bullock, formerly of
the Washington Opera.
In celebration of
National Library Week, National Poetry Month, and Month of the Young Child, the
Library hosted several workshops and events in April. Events included a Writers’
Coffeehouse with South Carolina’s Poet Laureate Marjory Wentworth sharing some
of her work; and in sponsorship with CTL, a workshop on Germantown Writes! that
featured faculty talking about writing and publishing.
Germantown
celebrated earth day on Tuesday, April 22 rather appropriately. Check out this video clip, courtesy of Gretchen Rimkus,
