Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Message from the Directors

Dear Prospective Student:

Thank you for your interest in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) Program. Contained within this website is information that you will need to  apply to Montgomery College and start an  assessment process which will enable you to enroll in the appropriate general education courses when the next semester begins. At Montgomery College we strive to provide a comprehensive and thorough education to ready our sonographers of the future for this progressive medical imaging modality. The DMS Program is not a traditional program, it encompasses blended learning, the deliberate connection of educational technology with face-to-face instruction/scanning to enhance and personalize a deep and meaningful curriculum.

We urge you to obtain a current  College Catalog and review the  Admissions section, as it applies to the  Health Sciences Curricula (further detailed in Appendix E).

Once you have a chance to review the information provided, attend a  DMS Information Session. These sessions are held once a month and are a valuable source of information. Please save your questions for the session; we have Faculty and Counselors available to discuss what it takes to be an eligible candidate for the program and what the expectations are once you are accepted into the DMS Program. You do not need an appointment to attend a session; however, you MUST attend at least one session prior to applying to the DMS Program. If you are unable to attend an information session, please contact the DMS Department, 240-567-5563, and get your questions answered.

Keep in mind that March 1st of each year is the deadline for applying to the Degree and Certificate Programs that begins in  the Summer semester (usually right after memorial day weekend).

You may take the general education courses without being accepted into the DMS program. It is recommended that you speak with a counselor on the Takoma Park Campus to plan your course of study. The Counseling Department telephone number is 240-567-1480.

We hope our website is helpful. Please review the DMS Admissions Procedures and the dates and times for the next scheduled DMS Information Session. Good Luck in you endeavors. We look forward to meeting you at an upcoming Information Session.

With Best Regards,
