The Institute for Race, Justice, and Civic Engagement (IRJC), which officially opened in February 2018, provides a meeting area where students can discuss social justice issues; an academic space where faculty can support students; a food pantry and clothing library; and community engagement so students can connect with volunteer opportunities and community support organizations.

The Institute was the realization of an effort by the IRJC's director, Dr. Vincent Intondi, to create a space dedicated to social justice that supports students from underrepresented and marginalized groups by helping them find their agency and engage in the democratic process. Dr. Intondi is an associate professor of history and the author of the book African Americans Against the Bomb: Nuclear Weapons, Colonialism, and the Black Freedom Movement with Stanford University Press.

The IRJC is headquartered in Pavilion 4 203 and consists of three separate spaces. One space is reserved for the food pantry and clothing library where students in need can find donated food items and borrow clothes for job interviews and other professional opportunities. Another space has computers, tables, books, couches, and other materials for research, academic advising, and holding meetings. The third space is used to host speakers and film screenings. As the Institute grows, Dr. Intondi intends to partner with other universities and local groups to expand the IRJC's activities and programs.

Check out the IRJC Event Calendar to find out about upcoming events and programs.
