Germantown Innovation Center
The Germantown Innovation Center (GIC) is located in a 32,000 square foot building. The business incubator promotes intellectual and entrepreneurial synergy among students, faculty, and businesses. It specifically addresses the needs of start-up technology companies.
There are currently more than 20 firms located in the center, specializing in the areas of stem cell research, healthcare information technology, biotechnology, nanotechnology, and information technology.
Montgomery College currently operates a small scale biomanufacturing laboratory and classroom in the Germantown Innovation Center in cooperation with resident GIC businesses. This facility allows Montgomery College students to receive up-to-date instruction with current industry equipment and techniques in biomanufacturing.
Entry level and intermediate hands on training is also available on a contractual basis for members of the biotech industry or other interested parties. Training can be designed to encompass the entire biomanufacturing process or can be tailored to focus on upstream or downstream unit operations.
