2013 F. Scott Fitzgerald Literary Festival Special Guest
R. Clifton Spargo is the author Beautiful Fools, The Last Affair of Zelda and Scott Fitzgerald (Overlook Press, May 2013). A Chicago-based novelist and cultural critic, who writes the blog “The HI/LO,” on the interplay between high and low culture, for The Huffington Post, he is a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and of the doctoral program in literature at Yale University. His stories have appeared in Kenyon Review, Antioch Review, Glimmer Train, FICTION, and elsewhere. His essays on literature, pop culture, and rock music have appeared in The Atlantic, Raritan, Commonweal, The Yale Review, The Chicago Tribune, The Baltimore Sun, The Cambridge Companion to Bob Dylan, and Newcity; and he has also published two books on philosophy and literature with The Johns Hopkins University Press. He has taught creative writing and American literature at Yale University and Marquette University, and created the testimonial writing workshop “The Stories We Tell” for the award-winning non-profit The Voices and Faces Project. He is currently the Provost’s Fellow in Fiction in the English Department at the University of Iowa.
